Jacob Ovrick Inspired Dragon

More uni work, this was for our 3D module. I don't plan on persuing 3D stuff but I had a lot of fun making this guy and wanted to post them. We had to research and reproduce the style of a 3D artist of our chosing, so I went with Jacob Ovrick as I love his work. For the textures I used a combination of Substance Painter and FireAlpaca, I mostly wanted to hand draw them but it's easier to paint directly onto the model in some instances, so for that I used Substance Painter. You can take a closer look at the model (without the background) here: https://skfb.ly/oV6Kx

The first of a couple of renders done in Maya with Arnold. Took a bit of playing around with the lighting to get to this stage, I love how these all turned out.

The lighting as a slightly blue hue in most of these too.

These last few renders were my first few attempts - I actually like the look of these too, it's a bit nostalgic, but they're not as high quality as the rest so I put them last

Tried to get the whole background in view as well, even though there's a ginormous shadow cast over most of it.

These were the original concepts/ a few different ideas, the dragon was the most popular.

Here's the final design. Originally I was going to model the clouds too, but to save time I just painted them into the background.

One half of the background. I spent about five minutes making these as the focus was on making the model itself, this was just so the lights had something pretty to bounce off of.

Second half of the background, these were both done in FireAlpaca. I managed to accidentally line up the clouds on the left side pretty well, which was a cool bonus.
